One Magical Summer in Bali

As of today, there are four days until I return back to Canada, and I still can’t believe that my time in Asia is already coming to an end. The past 6 months have been nothing short of amazing, and I feel so grateful to have been given this opportunity to  be able to immerse myself in yet another entirely new and different culture, and make so many unforgettable memories.

I could not have asked for a better summer this year. All of July was spent in Bali, Indonesia (also refered to by many as the “Island of the Gods”). Some of my favourite highlights were getting to see the beautiful Tegalalang Rice Terraces, visiting the Goa Gajah Temple, going to a Monkey Forest, watching many gorgeous sunsets, and of course going to the beach and trying out new kinds of food!

The Tegalalang Rice Terraces are located in a town located in the center of Bali called Ubud. I really enjoyed seeing the beautiful landscapes, which offer stunning views of Bali’s unique irrigation systems that are used to harvest rice. This place is also listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site!

Goa Gajah is a sacred temple and archeological site that dates back to the 9th century. While there I received a Buddhist blessing, and also got to enter the “Elephant Cave”. It was a very unique and memorable experience, and it was definitely one of my favourite memories in Bali.

Also located in Ubud is the Sacred Monkey Forest, a nature reserve filled with monkeys! This place is also one of Ubud’s most popular tourist attractions. While I was there I got to meet several mischievous wild monkeys, it was definitely a fun experience!

I’m really craving a visit to Bali. I’ve only hear good things…after receiving your Buddhist blessing, having you started reaping the benefits of it yet?

I loved reading about your time in Bali – and your foodie recommendations! I liked Nalu Bowls (and the cafe above but I can’t remember the name!) and for restaurants like Sardine I’d add MammaSan and Kilo to the list 🙂
